Berkeley Supervisor Kevin Marshall, Lee Hill Supervisor Lori Hayes, and Salem Supervisor Dr. Deborah Frazier, join owners Todd Nelson and family, along with Caren Merrick, Secretary of Commerce and Trade, and Rita McClenny, President and CEO of Virginia Tourism Corporation, to celebrate the groundbreaking of Kalahari Resorts and Conventions on Friday, October 20, 2023. The ceremony and festivities, held in Thornburg, marks the beginning construction of the 1.38 million-square-foot resort. Kalahari will provide Spotsylvania County with a 907-guest room and suites location, an indoor waterpark, and 12 on-site food and beverage outlets. The resort is projected to open in 2026.
