Spotsylvania County announces cancellation of the 16th annual Stars & Stripes Spectacular planned June 27, 2020, at the Courthouse District. While we are aware that many will be disappointed by the decision to cancel this popular yearly tradition, the current status of the governor’s Phase One plan, leaves no other choice at this time. Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a public health threat and the safety of our community is our top priority.
This decision is made in accordance with Governor Northam’s Forward Virginia reopening plan that limits social gatherings to no more than ten in Phase One and no more than 50 in Phase Two. According to Governor Northam, Phases One and Two are expected to last 2-4 weeks, but may be extended. Phase One began May 15, 2020 and no announcement has been made yet as to when Virginia will enter Phase Two.
Stars and Stripes Spectacular is the county’s Independence Day celebration held each year the Saturday before the Fourth of July. The event draws 25,000-30,000 people to the Courthouse District on a yearly basis. Plans regarding a rescheduled date for the event may be announced at a later time.
