A swearing-in ceremony was held Tuesday, December 17, 2019 at 6:30 p.m. in Historic Spotsylvania Courthouse.
Spotsylvania Circuit Court Judge Ricardo Rigaul administered oaths to new members Salem Supervisor-Elect Deborah Frazier and Livingston Supervisor-Elect Barry Jett, as well as current members Chancellor Supervisor Tim McLaughlin and Courtland Supervisor David Ross.
“I realize this dream wasn’t just mine and I can’t do it alone, but I stand on the shoulders of people who came before me -- who fought for democracy, who fought for diplomacy, who wanted to have equity in their community, it feels as though I have been empowered,” says Salem Supervisor-Elect Deborah Frazier. “I don’t want to be self-serving. I want to serve my community. I want to listen to the community. I want to give them value, give them a voice.”
Mrs. Frazier and Mr. Jett will begin their first terms January 1, 2020, while Mr. McLaughlin and Mr. Ross will begin serving their third terms on that date.
Several constitutional officers were also sworn into office during Tuesday’s ceremony, including Spotsylvania County Sheriff Roger Harris, Commonwealth's Attorney Travis Bird, and Treasurer Larry Pritchett, as well as four school board members. A reception was held immediately following the ceremony in nearby Historic Berea Church. Commissioner of Revenue Deborah Williams was sworn into office by Circuit Court Clerk Christy Jett during a separate ceremony held earlier that day.
