[ARCHIVED] Sanitary Sewer Smoke Testing

Smoke Testing Manhole and Equipment

Spotsylvania County Department of Utilities will be performing sanitary sewer smoke testing to locate defects in the sanitary sewer system.  During smoke testing, residents may see non-toxic smoke coming from vent stacks on houses or holes in the ground around sewer mains.  Smoke should not enter your home unless you have defective plumbing or dry drain traps.  If you have seldom-used drains, please pour water in the drains to fill the traps.  For more information about smoke testing and what to expect, click on this link:  Sanitary Smoke Testing or view this notice (pdf).

During the month of October and November, smoke testing will take place in the Spotslee, Stoneybrook and Plantation Forest subdivisions and the surrounding areas.

On Tuesday, November 5th, while schools are closed for election day, sanitary sewer smoke testing will take place in the vicinity of Robert E. Lee Elementary and Spotsylvania Middle Schools. The testing route will include sanitary sewer manholes located on Brock Road from Lake Anna Parkway to Old Courthouse Road; and, manholes located on Courthouse Road from Old Courthouse Road to Massaponax Church Road.  The testing in this vicinity will last approximately four to six hours.
