Spotsylvania County Department of Utilities will be performing sanitary sewer smoke testing to locate defects in the sanitary sewer system. During smoke testing, residents may see non-toxic smoke coming from vent stacks on houses or holes in the ground around sewer mains. Smoke should not enter your home unless you have defective plumbing or dry drain traps. If you have seldom-used drains, please pour water in the drains to fill the traps. For more information about smoke testing and what to expect, click on this link: Sanitary Smoke Testing or view this notice (pdf).
During the month of October and November, smoke testing will take place in the Spotslee, Stoneybrook and Plantation Forest subdivisions and the surrounding areas.
On November 5th, while schools are closed for election day, smoke testing will specifically take place on Brock Road near Robert E. Lee Elementary School. Crews will work from the intersection of Lake Anna Parkway and Brock Road to the intersection of Courthouse Road. Smoke testing will continue on Courthouse Road near Spotsylvania Middle School all the way to the intersection of Massaponax Church Road and Courthouse Road. This testing will last approximately four to six hours in this vicinity.
