New Civil War Trail Marker

Jackson was wounded by friendly fire during the Battle of Chancellorsville in May 1863. He survived the surgery but died a week later of pneumonia. Jackson’s arm is buried at nearby Ellwood Manor. The new sign is titled “Midnight Amputation – The Complications of Civil War Surgery” with a description of the surgery and a photo of the surgical kit that was used on Jackson.
