Join Julia Jones, VP of Manufacturing at Newport News Shipbuilding, and Kimberly Noonan, Executive Director of Women in Manufacturing (WiM) Virginia, as they discuss the state of manufacturing in Virginia and the increasingly important role women play in the manufacturing sector, contributing to its growth, innovation, and sustainability.


Julia Jones

Vice President, Manufacturing

Julia Jones is vice president of Manufacturing at Newport News Shipbuilding, a division of HII, located in Newport News, Virginia. She is responsible for the shipyard’s manufacturing of structural and component fabrication operations.

Jones began her shipbuilding career in 1998 as a Senior Operations Coordinator. Since then, she has held numerous positions of increasing responsibility in operations, production control, nuclear support and corporate strategic planning. She served as the trade’s director for Surface Preparation and Treatment and as director of Operations Integration where she led transformation efforts to improve overall efficiency and effectiveness within the division.

Jones earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Christopher Newport University and a master’s in business administration from Averett University. She is currently serving on the board of directors for the Virginia Manufacturers Association.


Kimberly Noonan is the Director of Member Services with the Virginia Manufacturers Association (VMA) and also serves as Executive Director of the Women in Manufacturing (WiM) Virginia Chapter. In 2019, Kimberly was a founder of the Virginia chapter of Women in Manufacturing (WiM) and grew the organization to 550+ female leaders across the Commonwealth providing year-round professional development and networking with the unwavering goal of promoting equitable opportunities to women who have chosen a career in the manufacturing industry. WiM Virginia is the state affiliate of the National Women in Manufacturing Organization. Join us for this informative presentation on Women in Manufacturing.
