Environmental Education & Public Outreach

In the Classroom

Each year the Solid Waste Division provides teachers in Spotsylvania County an Environmental Education Guide. That guide provides interesting, hands-on learning experiences for students of all ages to learn the basics of environmental issues. Topics include how the landfill works, recycling, litter, pollution prevention, waste reduction, composting and conservation. The activities and lesson plans are SOL correlated and available in your classroom! Our staff would be delighted to arrange an engaging activity for your students.

Landfill, Compost Facility & Recycling Center Tours

See what goes on behind the scenes once you dispose of your recycling, trash, or brush in the County. Free walking informational tours are available Monday through Friday for the Livingston Landfill, Recycling Facility, and the Livingston Blend Compost Facility. We will be walking outdoors; therefore, participants should dress appropriately. Staff will work with you to tailor your tour to the specific age group or time constraints.
