State Income

Filing Deadlines

The filing deadline for Virginia State Income Tax Returns is May 1.

Purpose

The State Income Office of the Commissioner of the Revenue is responsible for reviewing and processing state tax returns for Spotsylvania County residents. The office staff reviews each tax return, checking for errors, omitted information and to verify that the correct filing status is used.

If an error is discovered, the taxpayer is notified and given the opportunity to correct the return. Through online access to the Department of Taxation Information System, the staff can inquire on the status of a refund and offer assistance in reviewing adjustments and correspondence from the Department of Taxation.

Estimated Tax Information
State Income is also responsible for handling estimated tax payments. Form 760ES Voucher 1 should be sent to the Commissioner by May 1. For more information visit Estimate Tax Payments.

The first estimated tax payment for Virginia Income Tax is due May 1. Please mail the estimated payment to the Commissioner of the Revenue, PO Box 175, Spotsylvania, VA 22553-0175. The remaining payments should be mailed to the Treasurer of Spotsylvania County, P.O. Box 65, Spotsylvania, VA 22553. All checks should be made payable to "Treasurer, Spotsylvania County".
