Fire Prevention
The Fire Prevention Division is responsible for inspecting all new commercial construction as well as inspecting all existing businesses on an annual basis for violations of the VA-SFPC. The Fire Marshals in Spotsylvania County are sworn law enforcement officers; they investigate fires, burn complaints and enforce all of the local and state environmental and criminal codes. Along with those duties, they perform public fire safety education, fire prevention, and public training.
Notice
THE “4:00 PM” STATE BURN LAW
During the period between February 15th and ending April 30th of each year, open burning may only take place between the hours of 4:00 PM and midnight.
D.E.Q. Regulations
Open burning for debris waste (land clearing) is not permitted from May 1st to October 1st in Spotsylvania County.
