Spotsylvania Parks and Recreation Department offers football for ages 8 to 13 with weight limitations and cheerleading for ages 5 to 14 to Spotsylvania County residents. November 1, 2023, is the age determination date. The registration fee is $55 per person. 

Official Weight

If registering in person for football at the Parks and Recreation office, we ask that you have your child with you. Your child is not officially registered for football until an official weight is recorded in person at the Parks and Recreation office. Participants who are not weighed by June 21, 2023, will be considered as a late registration and be required to pay an additional $20.  

If your child cannot be present during normal hours of 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday, the department’s office at Loriella Park will be open on Saturday, June 10, 2023 from 8:00a.m. to 11:00a.m. and will be open on Tuesday, June 13, 2023 until 8:00 p.m. for participants to be registered and/or weighed.

Practices & Games

Practices will begin in late July and games will be played weekday evenings and Saturdays beginning in late August and continuing through November. Players who participated in the 2022 Youth Football program, who meet age and weight requirements and register on time will return to their 2022 team. If not, players will be placed in the draft. All children who reside in the same household and are in the same age/weight group will automatically be placed on the same team. (Please make a note on the registration form.) A Sports Age Waiver for children to participate one age higher than their actual age may be submitted - a child must turn 8 years old by November 1, 2023, to be eligible for a waiver. 

Please note that children cannot participate in both Football or Cheerleading and Fall Soccer due to overlapping seasons. For football, each player must be officially weighed-in at the Parks and Recreation Office.

Registration Information

Household Waiver

Online registration is available beginning the first day of registration through the posted deadline date. No age waivers are allowed when registering online. To register online, you will need to know your household ID number and password. To obtain your household ID and password a Household Waiver (PDF) must be completed and on file at the Parks and Recreation office prior to registering online. 

Once a household waiver is submitted to the Parks and Recreation Office along with verification of children’s birth date, if not on file, household waivers can take up to 3 business days for processing. No household waivers are processed on the last day of on-time registration. Household waivers are for online registration only. The household waiver is not required when registering in person at the office at Parks and Recreation.

If you have forgotten your household ID number and/or password, please call the Spotsylvania Parks and Recreation Office at 540-507-7529 to request this information. Please notify Parks and Recreation office as soon as possible of address, telephone, or email address changes prior to registering online.

Registration Procedure

The registration fee is $55. Make your check payable to "Treasurer, Spotsylvania County". There will be a $50 service charge on all returned checks. 

To register your child, complete the registration form and return it by mail or in person with the fee and a copy of the child’s birth certificate (if one is not already on file with us) to the Parks and Recreation Department. 

A drop box is located on the side of the office located in Loriella Park. The drop box is open 7 days a week from 8 a.m. to dusk.  Reminder...if using the drop box for Football Registration, please remember your child must be weighed in at the Parks & Recreation Office prior to the registration deadline date of June 21, 2023.  If using the drop box, please include registration form, payment (check or cash), and a copy of the childs birth certificate if one is not on file with the Parks & Recreation Department. 

Do not return forms to the schools. We cannot register your child until a birth certificate is submitted. (A 2.75% non-refundable convenience fee will be charged on all credit/debit card transactions.)

Notices & Late Registration

Postmarks will not be considered. Late registrations may be accepted if there is space in the league. All participants that register after 4:30 p.m. on the deadline day or any day after the deadline, must pay $55 registration fee plus a $20 late fee (total $75).

Refunds

Individuals wishing to withdraw and/or requesting a refund must do so by contacting the Spotsylvania Parks and Recreation Department. Individuals must follow up their verbal cancellation request with a written refund request and submit it to Spotsylvania Parks and Recreation Department prior to TBD for Football and TBD for Cheerleading.  A 20% administrative fee will be charged on all refunds. There will be no refunds given to those who withdraw after the above dates.  (If payment is made by credit/debit card, the 2.75% convenience fee will not be refunded.)

Transfer Form

All transfers must be made in person prior to the start of practices and/or games. A transfer request form must be filled out and signed before a transfer can be made. Transferred registrants may be placed on a waiting list if there is no space available. A $5 fee will be charged for each transfer.

Age Waiver Form

The Age Waiver Form (PDF) allows you to request to have your child play up one age group for sports (not to exceed one year age difference), you cannot complete the transaction online. (Not available for online registrations.) A $5 fee will be charged if age waiver is not submitted at the time of registration. Cancellations

Cancellations due to inclement weather can be heard by calling our cancellation line by calling 540-898-8546 and/or sign up for alerts to be received through emails, text messages, or your pager at the SpotsyAlert website. 

Cancellations will be available as soon as a decision is made to cancel. Please listen to the message carefully. If weather conditions are questionable and you do not hear or receive a cancellation announcement, you should report for your game.

Equipment Returns

All football equipment, (helmet - stickers must be removed) pads, and cheerleading uniform along with pom pom’s, must be returned to the Spotsylvania Parks and Recreation Department located in Loriella Park at the end of the football/cheerleading season. Football players may keep their jerseys. Failure to return equipment will result in the child being ineligible to participate in any other parks and recreation activities.
