Rappahannock Choral Society
The Rappahannock Choral Society (RCS) is a 60 and over voice, audition-only, regional chorus in partnership with Spotsylvania County Parks and Recreation, a Partner In Education with Spotsylvania County Schools and a Partner in Community Service with the Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Department.
Membership
Are you a singer looking for a new musical home or a way to support your community and meet new friends? Rehearsals are open to the public and held on Monday evenings from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Zoan Baptist Church Sanctuary on Route 3 west near Harrison Crossing. Come listen and see if the RCS is a good home for your voice.
Performances
The RCS's charismatic new Conductor and Artistic Director, the accomplished Dr. Jordan Davidson, has a beautiful and fun selection of music to get your Christmas season started on the perfect note! Much-acclaimed pianist Marilla Haas continues as Accompanist to the delight of concert-goers of all ages. RCS President Linda Monner and the Board of Directors welcome you to another season of spectacular choral music. Join the voices of the RCS as they perform two concerts each year...a Christmas Concert in early December and a Spring Concert in May/June. Each concert features two performances, one on Saturday evening at 7:30 p.m. and the second on Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. at a local venue.
Check the RCS website and look for their ads in the Free Lance-Star newspaper for exact dates as December and May approach. Concerts typically feature familiar choral music, serious pieces to thrill audiences, fun pieces to make you smile and laugh and music to evoke memories from the decades. And look for new musical surprises as Dr. Davidson expands the RCS tradition under his leadership. Attendance at Christmas concerts is always free for all concert-goers. Tickets for Spring concerts, available from RCS members and at the door, are just $8 for general admission and $5 for seniors. Students and children attend free. Join the Rappahannock Choral Society as they present "Great Music....Close to home!"
Scholarships
The Rappahannock Choral Society awards a $1000 scholarship at their Spring concert to a qualified Spotsylvania County high school student studying music beyond high school. Interested students should contact their guidance counselor for more information to make sure they meet the April application deadline.
