Lifeguard Training Course

Spotsylvania Parks & Recreation is excited to hold two American Red Cross Lifeguard Training courses this summer at Loriella Park Pool. The courses are open to ages 15 & up, and will be offered for two different time periods this summer.

The first session will be June 20th-June 22nd from 8am-3pm (Monday-Wednesday). The fee for this session is $295, and includes the Pre-Requisite Swim Test that will be held on the first day of the course. The Registration Deadline for this session is on Friday, June 17th, 2022.

The second session will be held July 15th-July 17th from 8am-3pm (Friday-Sunday). The fee for this session is $270, and also requires the participant to register for the Pre-Requisite Swim Test for an additional $25 on one of the following dates: Thursday, June 30th from 10am-11am, or Wednesday, July 6th from 11am-12pm (noon). One of these dates must be selected and have the additional $25 fee paid in order to register for the July 15th-July 17th session. The Registration Deadline for this session is Wednesday, July 13th.

PREREQUISITES: Students must be at least 15 years old by the last scheduled class date. The Pre-Requisite Swim Test will be completed on the first day of the course for the June course, or prior to the first day of the course for the July course on any of the following dates: Thursday, June 30th from 10am-11am, OR Wednesday, July 6th from 11am-12pm (noon). The fee is $25 for the Pre-Requisite Swim Test. Participants that do not complete the test on the any of the dates above will be refunded the tuition minus a $25 administrative fee. Participants that attend the first day of class but fail to complete the Pre-Requisite Swim Test will not be offered a refund under any circumstances.

PLEASE BE CERTAIN THAT THE PARTICIPANT CAN COMPLETE THE SWIM TEST PRIOR TO REGISTERING FOR THE COURSE

The Pre-Requisite Swim Test consists of:

  1. Swim 300 yards continuously using front crawl and breaststroke.
  2. Swim 20 yds using crawl or breaststroke, surface dive to a depth of 7 to 10 feet, retrieve a 10-pound object, return to surface and swim 20 yds back to the starting point with the object within 1 minute 40 seconds.
  3. Tread water for 2 minutes without use of hands.
