Public Comments

Due to COVID-19, Spotsylvania County buildings require social distancing protocols.  Therefore, we are accepting online submissions for public comments and public hearings.  

 

ONLINE PUBLIC COMMENTS:

Members of the public may submit public comments in writing to be read into the record by County staff.  Those desiring to submit written comments to be read publically to the Board may do so by submitting comments through the County’s website or by placing written comments in the Treasurer’s Office drop box outside the Holbert Building at 9104 Courthouse Road, Spotsylvania, VA 22553.  

Comments submitted through the County’s website should be done using the public comment link which will appear below by close of business the Wednesday prior to the public meeting through 12:00 P.M. the day of the public meeting.  Written comments not received by County staff by 12:00 P.M. on the day of a meeting will not be read into the record.     

Any material or information to be displayed on the County computer by a member of the public must be provided to the County's Department of Information Services for review as an electronic file no later than 9:00 A.M. on the day of the public meeting.


GUIDELINES FOR SPEAKING


Public Comment on Consent Agenda


Public comment is an opportunity for you to address items on the consent agenda.  This is separate from public presentations and public hearings.  Public comments on the consent agenda are one-way comments from you to the Board of Supervisors, they are not a forum for dialogue or debate.  

  • Individuals speaking on their own behalf are allowed three minutes to speak, one individual representing a group is allowed five minutes to speak.
  • No speaker shall be permitted to yield time to another speaker.
  • Please state your name and voting district as soon as you reach the podium.
  • Public comments shall not be used to address matters subject to public hearings or to make political campaign speeches or private advertisements.
  • Please watch the light on the podium to monitor the time of your presentation:
    • Green – your public comments begin.
    • Yellow – you have one minute to summarize your comments
    • Red – your public presentation is complete.

Public presentations are an opportunity for you to present matters you believe deserve the Board's attention.  These presentations are not part of a public hearing.  Public presentations are one-way comments from you to the Board of Supervisors.  They are not a forum for dialogue or debate.

  • Individuals speaking on their own behalf are allowed three minutes to speak, one individual representing a group is allowed five minutes to speak.
  • No speaker shall be permitted to yield time to another speaker.  No speaker shall address the Board more than once during public presentations at any single Board meeting.
  • Please state your name and voting district as soon as you reach the podium.
  • Public presentations shall not be used to address matters subject to public hearings or to make political campaign speeches or private advertisements.
  • Please watch the light on the podium to monitor the time of your presentation:
    • Green – your public comments begin.
    • Yellow – you have one minute to summarize your comments
    • Red – your public presentation is complete.
