The Director of Elections / General Registrar provides all eligible citizens convenient access for voter registration, maintains 89,700 voter records and other election-related data accurately, organizes and oversees voter registration drives, trains Election Officials, conducts locality absentee voting, manages new candidate qualifications with campaign finance and supervises primary, special and general election polling precincts for local, state and federal elections.

Office Hours:  Monday - Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm...additional hours before Election dates.  (Location of our office.)

An appointed constitutional officer, the Director of Elections / General Registrar ensures that the opportunity to register and vote is available to all eligible residents. Managing efficient elections while protecting the integrity of the democratic process, the Registrar's office also compiles and maintains accurate voter records and processes election results. The Registrar conducts all voter administration and elections as required by the Constitution, Code of Virginia and directives of the Department of Elections.

  • Absentee Voting: see the links on the right.  You can apply online, in-person or by mail/email/fax. You then vote either in-person or through the mail.  We begin absentee (not "early") voting 45 days before EACH election. If printing a paper application - submit to or fax- 540-507-7519.
