New 22551 Zip Code

Effective July 1, 2007, the US Postal Service will be implementing a new ZIP Code within a portion of Spotsylvania County which will be serviced from the Spotsylvania Post Office.  It will cover a portion of the ZIP Code area of what is currently Spotsylvania, VA 22553.  The new ZIP Code will be 22551 and all postal customers residing within its boundaries will use Spotsylvania, VA, the same as they use now.

A link to the detailed description of the boundary line for the new ZIP Code is below.  Basically, the split is between the northern and southern portions of the existing 22553 ZIP Code.  Starting where Plank Rd intersects the Spotsylvania/Orange County line, the boundary goes east along Plank to Brock Rd., southeast along Brock Rd to where it meets Courthouse Rd., then south along Courthouse Rd. to its intersection with Massaponax Church Rd., and then east to where the existing boundary lines exists between 22553 and 22407.  All area north and east of this line in the existing 22553 ZIP Code will remain using that ZIP Code.  All area south and west of this line in the existing 22553 ZIP Code will use the new ZIP Code of 22551.

A notification letter will be distributed by the Post Office to the affected residents during the latter part of May.  The new ZIP Code will not be required to be on the mail when it goes into effect, but residents will be encouraged to notify their correspondents to start using it as of the effective date.  The Postal Service does not anticipate any delay in mail service during this transition.
