Fire, Rescue & Emergency Management

Welcome and thank you for visiting our website!

Situated in the Rappahannock Region of Virginia and located half way between the state’s and nation’s capitals, Spotsylvania County consists of 407 square miles of suburban and rural areas. Our department is a combination career/volunteer system consisting of 210 career and approximately 300 active volunteer personnel operating out of 12 fire and rescue stations. Our outstanding men and women provide quality fire and EMS service to a population of over 130,000 citizens, and last year, we responded to more than 17,000 incidents that required 30,800 unit responses.

Our career and volunteer personnel are State certified firefighters and/or State certified Emergency Medical Technicians. Over 100 are also certified to provide advanced life support (ALS) care. Each day, our Department staffs 11 engines (including 3 Quints), up to 11 advanced life support (ALS) medic units, 2 EMS supervisors, and 2 Battalion Chiefs. Additionally, we also cross staff 1 ladder truck, 7 tankers, and 2 heavy rescue trucks, as well as other specialty equipment that is available each day. Utilizing the above staff and equipment we provide the following services: fire suppression, emergency medical basic and advanced life support response and transport, technical rescue, dive team/water rescue, training services, emergency management, code enforcement, public fire education, fire investigations, and response to natural and man-made disasters.

If you have what it takes to be a member of our growing team and have the desire to professionally serve our citizens and our community, we have a place for you as a career or volunteer responder. Contact us below for more information.
